Chris Truscott

Running coach & athlete

Chris Lane Cove Striders 10k

Chris began running at the tender age of 6yrs old with his first trophy coming in the under 7's Hornsby Cross Country carnival. Throughout his school life, Chris competed in many State championship events.

It wasn't until his late teens did he start training a harder and more consistently taking up long distance running. His brother Pete and he would run the 27k's from their Normanhurst family home to their father's factory in Surry Hills where Chris worked during his Uni years.

Chris's first marathon was in the 1993 Big M - Melbourne marathon. At the age of 18, he was happy to finish in 3:13.26

Chris has gone on to compete in marathons' Berlin, Chicago, Rotterdam, London, Tokyo and local ones - Sydney, Melbourne & Canberra.

Chris has managed to maintain his longetivity in running via a balanced approach to life and to the sport. In 2007, he along with wife Greta, represented NSW at the National Cross Country titles in Perth before travelling to the lovely Margaret River wine region. The real enjoyment for him lies in the social bonding that running creates and the thrill of the challenge in the many races & training sessions throughout each year.

Chris has also enjoyed (whether by choice or not), many strong rivalries over the years. Sergio Carvalho, Robin Whitely, Dean Degan, Nick Bennett, Lazar Hamadi, to name just a few.

Chris is currently training for the Gold Coast marathon where he will strive to break his pb of 2:29:44 set in Berlin in 2002. after that, he will compete in his 23rd City to Surf and from there on........?

Finding inspiration everywhere

Gebrselassie Berlin- distance running king

This pic was taken at the 2006 Berlin Marathon Expo. My brother Pete, & I were walking along when Pete became quite animated in trying to gain my attention. Soon I saw why. None other than the running king himself - Haile Gebrselassie, walked on by.

He walked, his entourage walked, we chased and when the group missed a crucial turn to exit the expo, we pounced.

Haile was very approachable actually, especially when we told him we saw him claim the gold in the Sydney Olympics 10000m. After this pic was takenm and a few brief words of goodluck both ways, we went our separate ways until again I bumped into him after stumbling over the line. Haile was on his way to the winner's podium so I stopped him and congratulated him. I didn't need to ask if he had won the race, I simply knew.

Haile has gone on to record the two fastest marathon times in history - all within a few months of each other.

Through running, I have met many top former and current Australian legends. I have been on both sides of the organisation of fun runs and corporate events and I know that running creates many opportunities to explore the immediate area of wherever you may find yourself on this planet.

Rejoov running travel will begin taking running excursions around Australia in 2008 so make your way over to that page for a squizz. I hope to see you all out there.
